Empower young people to encounter Christ, live a life in the spirit and participate in the mission of the church.
- To facilitate evangelisation and discipleship opportunities for young people to encounter Christ;
- To empower young people to lead a new evangelisation through participation in the life and mission of the Catholic Church;
- To build evangelisation pathways between Catholic schools and local Church communities (Parish and ecclesial movements);
- To provide further formation opportunities by drawing young people together for Archdiocesan and national youth ministry initiatives; and
- To resource Catholic schools and local Church communities with formation programs for young people.
Meet the Team
Youth Ministers Coordinator –
(New Evangelisation in Catholic Schools)
Huw Warmenhoven is the Youth Ministers Coordinator for the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn. In this role, Huw will establish and lead post-school Youth Ministers in Parishes and Schools across the Archdiocese. In addition, he will focus on inviting young people to enter into participation in the life and mission of the Church through building pathways from our Catholic schools to Church communities.
Huw has been the Youth Coordinator for Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) for the past four years where he has conducted staff and student events, developed initiatives for young people to connect with the broader Catholic Church and continue in youth ministry beyond the school context. He also has a passion for mission having led mission initiatives across four continents.
Project Officer (Catholic Schools and the New Evangelisation) – Nathan Galea
Nathan Galea is appointed under the Catholic Education Office of Canberra Goulburn as the Project Officer for the New Evangelisation. He will be involved in assisting with and overseeing the implementation of the Youth Ministry Program in our secondary Catholic schools within the Archdiocese and will work closely with Religious Education Coordinators and Principals. His role will also be involved in Staff formation programs and assisting in working with our schools to become centres of the New Evangelisation as well as taking on many other various leadership roles within the school.
Nathan has spent the past 11 years working as a Religious Education teacher as well as taking on many other leadership roles within the school and is currently the Director of Mission at St Edmund’s College for 2016. He has been instrumental in the development of the CSYMA Youth Ministry program around Australia and has a vast experience in adult formation and Youth Ministry. Prior to teaching Nathan worked in the Sydney Archdiocese in Parishes and with a Youth Ministry Team. Over the past 10 years he has been apart of the National Leadership Team of a new ecclesial movement within the Church focused around formation and evangelisation of young men.
