The Face of Mercy
FREE ADVENT RESOURCE
In April of this year Pope Francis announced a ‘Year of Mercy’ to commence on December 8th. As part of our Archdiocesan response to this Year of Mercy, an online daily Advent resource connecting the season of Advent with the theme of mercy will be provided.
There is a natural connection between the season of Advent and the mercy of God. During Advent we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. In him we experience the mercy of God incarnate. That God so loves each of us that he is prepared to become one us, and in so doing reveal the depth and breadth of his mercy, deserves our sustained reflection and prayer. This resource will offer the daily opportunity to do just that.
It is entitled ‘the Face of Mercy’, picking up on the opening lines of the Papal document announcing the Year of Mercy. There we read: “Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy. These words might well sum up the mystery of the Christian faith. Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth, reaching its culmination in him” (Misericordiae Vultus no. 1).
