Vinnies Sleepout
Canberra will officially join the rest of the country for the 12th annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday evening, June 22.
In NSW, 350 CEOs will sleepout at the SCG, while the venue in the ACT is Museum of Australia Democracy, House of Reps courtyard at Old Parliament House.
Archdiocesan St Vincent De Paul CEO Barnie van Wyk and CatholicCare CEO Anne Kirwan have indicated they are ready to brace the elements.
St Vincent de Paul Society NSW CEO Jack de Groot, will be participating for the first time and had the following to say:
“As homelessness continues to increase, largely due to the escalating costs of rental properties, there has never been a more crucial time to shine a light on the effects of the housing crisis and the work being done by the not-for-profit sector to support those who are falling through the cracks as governments continue to turn a blind eye.
“Very few people are unaffected by this housing crisis.”
A number of schools in the Archdiocese including St Patrick’s Bega and Lumen Christi College Pambula have already got behind the cause holding their own Vinnies Sleepouts.
