Whoever welcomes the one I send welcomes me
After he had washed the feet of his disciples, Jesus said to them:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
no servant is greater than his master,
no messenger is greater than the man who sent him.
‘Now that you know this, happiness will be yours if you behave accordingly. I am not speaking about all of you: I know the ones I have chosen; but what scripture says must be fulfilled: Someone who shares my table rebels against me.
‘I tell you this now before it happens,
so that when it does happen
you may believe that I am He.
I tell you most solemnly,
whoever welcomes the one I send welcomes me,
and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.’

John 13: 16-20

You can do it.

You can encounter Christ. You can be welcomed into His warm, tender loving embrace. You can share at the banquet of the Lord. You have the opportunity. Don’t blow it.

Jesus shows us how to love when He washed the disciple’s feet. To encounter each other amidst our brokenness – our feet. To show each other love, forgiveness, mercy, compassion, and hope – by washing away the impurities that reside on the surface.

This is the challenge of our faith. To live a life of love. To love as we have been loved. To serve humanity, just as the Son of Man came to serve. This is the life that you have been chosen for.

As you move through life today, see every moment as an opportunity to be love in the lives of others. You never know who you will encounter today. They too could have been chosen, set apart by Christ, to come into your life.

Jesus says that whoever welcomes those He sends, welcomes Him. When we welcome Christ, welcomes the great I Am – the God of infinite love, the creator of the cosmos. How can you take up this opportunity to encounter God? Be love.

So, don’t blow it.

Amen.
