I Pick You

Friendship with other men and women is one of the finest aspects of human life, and yet we are also called to something even more incredible: friendship with God.
The Bible says that God has created us individually. He loves us personally, guides us and draws us into His own life. The Bible tells us about this personal God who pitches His tent among us. It tells us that God becomes one of us.
Why? God doesn’t need us. He needs nothing. And yet the universe, in all of its amazing complexity and beauty, exists. Since God could not have made it out of self-interest, it can only follow that he made it out of love.
In today’ s Gospel Jesus says
‘You did not choose me, but I chose you.’
We are chosen by God, loved and – ‘appointed to bear fruit’
Remember picking teams for lunchtime games at school – everyone chooses the tallest, fastest, most athletic, most popular, etc., to be on their team. But God is not like that. His criterion for choosing is not based on us. God chose what is foolish in the world . . . God chose what is weak in the world…. God chose what is low and despised in the world.
And you? He chose you to demonstrate His character. He chose you that you may know Him and love Him. He chose you because He is love, He is gracious, He is merciful, and He has a glorious plan for you.
You see, love is at the heart of everything. Nothing matters without love, because God is Love.
