“Christian Twist”

On this feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our first reading is from Zechariah 2:14-17.

“Let all mankind be silent before the Lord!
For he is awaking and coming from his holy dwelling.”

In all forms of spirituality – Christian or otherwise – silence is a non-negotiable ingredient.

Zechariah, however, gives silence a “Christian twist.” Silence is understood as a “means to an end.”

That is, God is entirely present to each and every one of us, but we need silence so that we begin to feel God “awaking within us.”

Now, that is a worthwhile adventure!

Amen.
