“Golden Word”

It is the feast of St. Peter Chrysologus (380-450). He is possibly the best preacher we’ve ever had. His homilies were theologically rich, very eloquent and mercifully brief. That’s why they nicknamed him “Golden Word.”

Before preaching he would pray:

“God, grant me the grace of preaching, and grant those listening the grace of receiving.”

Before we go two by two – preaching and healing – as instructed by Jesus (Cf. Luke 10), we need to pray.

For preaching is a ministry – a human and divine act of service – and it must be prepared by prayer.

Amen.
