Be Not Afraid
22 October 2018
St. John Paul II was born in 1920 and died in 2005. At his funeral the chant went up, “Santo Subito” – Italian for “Saint Straightaway.” Pope Francis canonized John Paul in 2014.
Upon being elected pope in 1978, he emerged from the Conclave of Cardinals, appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica and proclaimed, “Be Not Afraid.”
John Paul lived to the full this Gospel phrase. By it he meant two things:
Don’t be afraid of letting Christ have His way with you.
Don’t be afraid of letting others know about the love of Christ.
Amen.
