Spendthrift Lover

God has a complaint today:

You have less love now than you used to. Think where you were before you fell; repent, and do as you used to at first (Rev 2).

On Remembrance Day 2018, I prayed at the Mass for the Fallen in St. Francis’, Melbourne. The offertory hymn – a “Spendthrift Lover” – might well respond to God’s complaint:

How shall we love this heart-strong God … what can we give or bring?
Acceptance of the matchless gift is gift enough to give.
The very act will shake and shift the way we love and live.

Amen.
