Puny Mite, Poor Worm
13 December 2018
When was the last time I thought of myself as poor worm? Why the image? Because I’m in need.
Here’s an interesting exercise. Count the number of times the personal pronoun – “I” – is used in the first reading today.
Why is it used so frequently I ask? Because God thinks, knows and feels that I am in deep need:
“I, the Lord, your God,
I am holding you by the right hand;
I tell you, ‘Do not be afraid,
I will help you.
Do not be afraid, Jacob, poor worm,
Israel, puny mite’” (Isaiah 41).
Amen.
