Once and For All
24 January 2019
Hebrews 7 is our first reading today, and it presents us with the primitive – not pedestrian – theology of the priesthood.
That is, it presents us with the priesthood of Jesus Christ, and thus the priesthood of our priests and the priesthood of the baptised. It speaks of the sacrifice of Jesus that is “done once and for all.”
I pray that priests and people will have a deeper appreciation of what happens when we celebrate the Eucharist.
Jesus Christ’s life, death, resurrection and ascension are made present. Time and space is transcended.
What a gift!
Amen.
