Archdiocesan Communications Manager
The Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn is the administrative body for the Catholic Church across a wide area, ranging from Goulburn to Lake Cargelligo, parts of the NSW South Coast and the Canberra region.
It is administered by a small team located at Manuka (ACT) headed by the Archbishop (Christopher Prowse) and his Vicar General (Fr Richard Thompson), with the primary administrative duties held by the Archdiocesan Financial Administrator – AFM (Ms Helen Delahunty) and the Chancellor (Dr Patrick McArdle).
Manage communications for the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn. Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, including parishes, education, social services, health, and media. Serve the Archbishop and Office for Evangelisation in effectively communicating the Gospel and preserving the mission’s integrity through digital and print content.
- Catholic Voice News (print and digital): Coordinate content for Catholic Voice News in both print and digital formats. Ensure articles meet publication standards, collaborate with writers, manage the production process, and oversee digital publishing and promotion.
- Content Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy for the Catholic Archdiocese, including planning, writing, and editing content for a variety of channels such as websites, social media, newsletters, publications, and media outlets.
- Brand Management: Maintain and enhance the brand image and reputation of the Catholic Archdiocese through effective communication strategies. Ensure consistency in messaging, visual identity, and tone of voice across all communication channels and media platforms.
- Creative Content Production: Conceptualize, create, and oversee the production of engaging and impactful content for both digital and print platforms. This includes designing and producing social media graphics, videos, brochures, flyers, and other collateral materials.
- Media Relations and Management: Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries and engage with journalists and media outlets when required. Build and maintain strong relationships with key media professionals. Monitor media coverage.
- Digital Media Management: Oversee online presence (website, social media, email campaigns). Develop and implement digital marketing strategies for increased engagement. Analyse analytics and trends to optimize content performance.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build positive relationships with internal departments, clergy, staff, and community leaders. Understand communication needs and effectively communicate key messages to target audiences. Collaborate on communication initiatives and provide media engagement guidance.
- Team Leadership: Manage communication professionals (writers, designers, event coordinators, media experts). Provide guidance and allocate resources. Ensure quality and effectiveness of communication initiatives. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or a related field
- At least four years of related experience
- Knowledge of Catholic teachings, practices, and traditions
- Current working with vulnerable people card
- Proven experience in strategic communication planning, content creation, media management, and brand management
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen attention to detail
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, content management systems, and media monitoring platforms
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and inspire team members to achieve goals and objectives
- Strong knowledge of Adobe software, including InDesign, Premiere Pro, and
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and diverse environment.
