Catholic Mission Diocesan Director, Archdiocese of Canberra/Goulburn

  • Full time position (37.5 hours per week) based in Canberra but will consider applications from those who may only be able to work flexible part-time, the equivalent of 22.5 hours per week (3dpw) or 30 hours per week (4dpw).

Catholic Mission is the international mission agency of the Catholic Church in Australia. It comprises the four Pontifical Mission Societies. Locally and globally, we answer the call to love God and to love our neighbour, and work to establish the Reign of God through building communities of missionary disciples who share their faith by proclaiming the Word, supporting Church communities and people in need, acting for justice and creation, and through the Society of the Holy Childhood, adopting child-focused, community-based development programs.

In Australia our work includes facilitating a sustainable program of fundraising and delivering community education and mission engagement programs, forming active partnerships with parishes, community groups, minority and cultural groups and the national schools network.

This senior position needs a highly motivated and experienced leader who has a passion for mission and a comprehensive understanding of the global issues of aid and development.

Your primary responsibility is to carry out the national plan for fundraising and missionary formation and education within the Archdiocese, and in doing so maximise the number of people and organisations within the Archdiocese engaging with Catholic Mission. You will manage all of the activity for Catholic Mission in the Archdiocese of Canberra/Goulburn. You will contribute beyond just your own position and you will support and be involved in the work of fundraising and education events, sports and community gala days, delivering training sessions, and promoting immersion programs

To do well in this role and work as part of our team, you will be able to manage your time well, and you will be highly organised and efficient. You will have your drivers’ license, be able to travel around the Canberra/Goulburn diocese and work a flexible schedule – sometimes including weekends. You will adapt to dynamic circumstances quickly and respond with energy. Your written and verbal communication skills will be excellent, and you will be able to present and deliver information confidently to a group. You will have had some experience working with diverse groups of people in the community or in the church. You may have some international travel experience or have previously lived and worked in a developing country.
