Catholic Prison Chaplain, Goulburn Correctional Centre

The Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn is seeking applications from suitably
qualified and motivated persons for the position of Catholic Prison Chaplain to the
Goulburn Correctional Centre. The Catholic Chaplain provides pastoral support to
approximately 550 inmates.

Applicants should have a proven ability in providing Catholic pastoral care and an
ability to lead prayer and the Catholic tradition. Applicants should be
able to demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church and have
the capacity to work with Chaplains of other faiths and with other professionals in
the team. It is essential that applicants possess the Clinical Education Certificate
or equivalent, or be prepared to undertake study to obtain the Certificate.

The Prison Chaplain encourages and supports inmates and their families as well as
the staff of the Correctional Centre. The Chaplain does this by assisting prisoners
to recognize the religious and spiritual dimensions of their lives by providing
opportunities for liturgy and Eucharist, prayer and bible study and helping
inmates stay in contact with their religious community. This role is a full-time
position and remuneration will be by negotiation. The successful applicant will be
required to undergo the requisite criminal and child protection checks.
