The Gift of our Children
Professional Standards and Safeguarding
“Truly children are a gift from the Lord, a blessing, the fruit of the womb”
Children are a gift from God; a gift to be treasured, a gift to be nurtured, a gift to be kept safe. The Catholic community of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn cherishes the gift of our children.
Children have an intrinsic right to dignity of life, respect and protection from harm.
Guided by the Archbishop’s commitment to this understanding, and informed by the Royal Commission’s Child Safe Standards and the draft National Catholic Safeguarding Standards, the Archdiocese has developed a series of support documents to assist each Parish and faith community in implementing the Archdiocesan Safeguarding Policy.
These safeguarding policy and procedure documents, found under the Safeguarding Documents section of this site, were open for community consultation in November this year. Some very helpful comments were received and incorporated into the final documents. While these documents will be formally re-opened for consultation in November 2019, anyone wishing to provide comments can do so at any time by emailing the Institute for Professional Standards and Safeguarding at firstname.lastname@example.org.
