Archdiocesan Finance Council

The Archdiocesan Finance Council (AFC) assists the Archbishop in his role as steward and administrator of the temporal goods of the Archdiocese (cc.492-493). Together with the Archdiocesan Finance Council, the Archbishop examines work proposals, budgets and plans for financing them, and makes the necessary decisions in conformity with the Spirit of the Gospel, the teaching of the Church and Church law.

The members are appointed by the Archbishop.

TEMPORAL GOODS COMMITTEE

The Temporal Goods committee is tasked to conduct an initial review of any new project involving the acquisition, administration or alienation of temporal goods in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn. It assists parishes and Archdiocesan agencies to meet civil and canonical requirements before submission of proposals to the Archdiocesan Trustees and or Archdiocesan Finance Council for approval. The members are appointed by the Archbishop.

CHURCH CLOSURES

Under Church law once a Church is dedicated to Divine worship, it should not be assigned to any other human purpose. For a grave reason however an exception can be made after the completion of a canonical process (c.1222). Once the decision has been made the Decree of Closure is issued by the Archbishop.
