Australia Day honours for rural Catholic pair
TWO Catholics from the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn have been recognised for their dedication to their local communities, receiving awards as part of the Australia Day Honours List.
Judith Williams and Brian McCormack were among the recipients of the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Ms Williams, who was the 2015 Citizen of the Year, was recognised for service to local government and to the community of Yass.
Mr McCormack, a local councillor, was similarly awarded the honour for his service to the local community in the Upper Lachlan Shire.
Governor-General and Chancellor of the Order of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove said the actions of all the recipients have greatly enriched the nation.
“They are a source of courage, support and inspiration, and we are a stronger, safer and more caring nation because of them,” he said.
