Ethan the ACT’s best in 2015

ETHAN Beaumont says he was surprised when he received the news that he had achieved the highest Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) in the ACT for 2015.

“I wasn’t expecting it,” he told The Canberra Times. “My estimate was 90 to 100, and there is a lot of leeway in there.

“But it’s a great reward for the past two years, with lots of late nights, lots of hard work. It has paid off and looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

The Marist College graduate scored an incredible 99.95 – the highest rank possible.

College headmaster Richard Sidorko said Ethan was a great example of the Marist values in all aspects of school life.

“As well as gaining outstanding academic results, Ethan is a good-natured and positive young man who has continually contributed to college life through his service contributions, and in playing for the First XI hockey team,” Mr Sidorko said. “Ethan’s performance is indicative of the strong academic results achieved by Marist students this year.”

Seven other Year 12 students at Marist also achieved an ATAR above 99, while a total of 36 students scored above 90.

Ethan, who nominates the sciences as his favourite subjects, plans to study aeronautical engineering at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) this year.
