A RAAF officer with a distinguished record of service was welcomed to Merici for the college’s ANZAC assembly.
Students and staff welcomed Wing Commander Robert Elliott, an officer for the past 20 years serving as Commanding Officer of 460 Squadron and on three separate tours of the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan.
He also served in humanitarian roles evacuating Australians from East Timor and Fiji following internal unrest.
Senator Zed Seselja and parents and friends of Defence students were also welcomed to the assembly.
When Merici Defence students and their parents came into the auditorium, the students placed a grey poppy among the red poppies on stage to honour those impacted by their service and to support those in need, in particular servicemen and women and civilians suffering physical and psychological hardship as a result of war.
