pilgrims on the journey

And so another World Youth Day is over and another location has been selected to host the next one.

Pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn kept themselves busy throughout the trip and enjoyed seeing the sights, meeting young people from all around the world and strengthening their faith.

Apart from the Days in the Diocese and World Youth Day week itself, some of the highlights from the pilgrimage included visiting travelling in the footsteps of St Maximillian Kolbe, St Faustina and St Pope John Paul II.

On the Tuesday during World Youth Day week (Monday, July 25 to Sunday, July 31), 3000 Australian young people joined Archbishop Christopher Prowse, Bishop Mark Edwards (the Australian Catholic Bishops – Delegate for Youth), Malcolm Hart (Director, Australian Catholic Bishops, Office for Youth) and the Catholic Bishops of Australia for a national gathering to launch a ‘Year of Youth’ building on the legacy of World Youth Day, Sydney, 2008.

Building on from Sydney in 2008, the Australian bishops discussed the changing landscape of youth ministry in Australia and described the three-year cycle of resources and events for young people; support and participation at World Youth Day and the engagement of a new generation of young Catholics through the Australian Catholic Youth Festival.
